Our first block of Stay, Play and Eat has come to an end.
Stay, Play and Eat is an initiative set up by Edinbarnet Primary School in order to allow parents to spend quality, one on one learning time with their children.
Stay, Play and Eat allowed both our children and parents to develop their understanding of reading strategies and how these can be explored through a wide range of activities. The opportunities planned for at Stay, Play and Eat were aimed at individual ability level in order for the children to be supported and challenged. This allowed our parents to see how they can support their child in a variety of different ways at home.
Stay, Play and Eat was also successful in developing our children's social skills. We loved sharing our learning as a community and providing the children with the opportunity to further develop their social skills in new situations.
To round off each session of Stay Play and Eat we sat down and had dinner together. Parents collected their other children from the creche if need be and they also joined us for dinner. This was a great way to build stronger relationships between staff and the families who attend our school. The food was provided by 'McMonagles Fish Boat' for the first few weeks and then 'The Riverside Bar and Restaurant' for the last 2 sessions. The food was delicious and a great incentive to work REALLY hard during our play sessions.

During our last session of Stay, Play and Eat we asked the parents to complete an evaluation form of the block. The feedback we received was outstanding. Here are some anonymous quotes we would like to share:

'I enjoyed it because it helped me bond & spend time learning fun different ways to help my child learn'
'Yes highly recommended, gave - confidence showing me what level he is at with words instead of just his homework'

'Yes, the teachers have worked hard and us parents enjoy the company'
'I feel that Stay, Play and Eat has brought me and my son into a more relaxed teaching habit and I feel I get less stressed while doing his homework at home'
Do you feel Stay, Play and Eat benefitted both yourself and your child?
'Yes, this gave me some time with - on her own after a rocky (diva) start the first two weeks, the 2nd two weeks went brill with - excited to do the activities with myself. Great learning curve for me. I have learnt how to teach - in ways I would not normally have done.'
In What ways do you feel Stay, Play and Eat could be improved?
'This is a great programme and I would definitely attend with my child again. I don't think it could be any better'
As a school we have evaluated the block and are amending the model for Term 3. We hope this is something that we can sustain as the benefits to the children and their families are endless.
